I contacted Harvest Right and worked with a tech to solve the problem. After providing the tech my information, he sent what I needed to get the machine up and running. The repair took about an hour and it has run fine since.

You can get better energy efficiency by getting a larger capacity model from Harvest Right or another brand, but you won’t be coming anywhere near this price point. This model is also still relatively small and can fit on a counter or a cart.

Proper trays ensure even distribution of the material being dried and facilitate efficient moisture removal.

With these accessories, we had everything we needed to start freeze-drying right away, but we have purchased extra accessories along the way. Extra trays, tray lids, tray dividers and more Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers have all been added to our gear list.

You may want to go the pre-packaged route if your budget and time resources don’t make sense for owning your own machine. Freeze-dried food suppliers are still a great idea for maximizing your emergency food shelf-life. Typically, those are over $10 per pound of food depending on the type.
